India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a red alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting gusty winds and hailstorms in the region over the next three hours.
The IMD reports that the winds can reach a speed of 50–70 km/h, which can cause disturbance in traffic, power supply, and outdoor activities. The alert has kept the city officials on their toes and prepared them for emergency response, particularly in sensitive areas.
People are instructed to remain indoors, avoid parking vehicles under trees or temporary structures, and tie down loose items that would otherwise act as projectiles in the strong winds. Flight operations at IGI Airport can also be disrupted, with flights likely to be delayed because of poor visibility and storm activity.
The unseasonable weather pattern is part of a broader wave of disruptions sweeping the northern states of India this week, with officials issuing similar warnings in neighboring states.
